The Beach Boys at Red Rocks Amphitheater

Don’t we look sunny and beach-y? Beach-Boy-y?
It’s been humid. Please excuse my hair. And yes that’s a fanny pack around my waist. It’s Lululemon, so, it’s allowed.
It’s always a fun night when you’re going to see a show at Red Rocks. It’s especially a fun night when you get to see The Beach Boys with your parents who pretty much define their entire relationship and youth by this music. My mom grew up in Hawthorne, California. She once babysat Al Jardine’s monkey. Oh, you didn’t know he had a monkey? Some fan you are. And P.S. while she was at his house she almost stole his underwear on a dare.
Before the Boys took the stage low and behold we see Al Jardine hanging out chatting with a security guard. My mom jumps up, waving and yelling frantically, “Al!!! Al!! Hawthorne!!! Al!!!”, and then turns to me, “I almost stole his underwear”.
And the night just kept getting better.
I had to choke back tears all evening because all I could think about was my sweet parents being young and in love. My dad, the rebel mechanic student from New Jersey. My mom, the innocent Catholic girl with a peroxide streak in her hair. Now here they are 40 years later dancing to their favorite band The Beach Boys, seeing them live for the first time ever at Red Rocks for the first time ever. It was just too much for my sensitive heart to handle. My dad even bought a special Hawaiian shirt to wear to the sold out show. God bless it all.
I’ve been to many Red Rocks shows over the years but I gotta say this will forever be my favorite evening at this venue. I witnessed an older generation come together and celebrate with a band that defined so much of their lives. The looks on their faces as they sang the songs displayed a mixture of nostalgia, bliss, and comfort. I could see the memories flashing in all of their eyes. It was gosh darn beautiful. I freakin’ love those moments.
My mom asked if she thinks there’s a place on the internets where she can find Al Jardine and tell him she almost stole his underwear. We’re taking suggestions.

Who brought the beach balls? Nice touch.

The Boys

The Beach Boys requested a cell phone light song. They’re new to this concept. Awwwwww.
What a wonderful experience – the parentals had the best of the best time!!! Will remember it always – xo
